Bruckner: Symphony No. 7

Alan Gilbert is the new principal conductor of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra. Just in time for the start of his first season in September 2019, the American conductor, who was chief conductor of the famous New York Philharmonic from 2009 to 2017, made his first recording with his orchestra at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg: Bruckner’s famous Symphony No. 7, whose premiere in Leipzig in 1884 marked the composer’s decisive breakthrough. Especially with the well-known Adagio, this work became an enormous success during Bruckner’s lifetime and the symphony is still one of the most well-known and beautiful works of the symphonic-romantic core repertoire. Even Johann Strauss Jr. was amazed at the symphony: “I am deeply moved. It was the musical experience of my life.”
