Cultural diversity has been at the heart of Trio Klavis since its beginning, which is why GEOGRAPHY OF SOUND is such a special project for us. Starting to play together as an ensemble was the result of so many coincidental meetings that finally united us, three well traveled musicians from seven different cultural backgrounds, adding new perspectives into each other’s lives. Since then we have been journeying together, and fi nding new inspiration in our many musical heritages. We have a Russian-Azeri-Turkish pianist, an Austrian-Mexican violinist, a Slovenian-Croatian saxophone player, and we all live in Vienna! It was not long before we identifi ed this cultural fl exibility as our greatest strength and started to allow it to infl uence our playing and our repertoire choices. We dove head-fi rst into this new dimension, ravenously searching for new songs, dances, and compositions from around the world, exploring them through the unique sounds and colors of our particular trio. The CD in your hands is the product of that exploration. GEOGRAPHY OF SOUND is our dedication to the people of the world. To those who meet wherever music is made, wherever a dance is danced, and whenever a song is sung. In the words of the wise master Friederich Schiller: “You millions, I embrace you! This kiss is for all the world!”.
